Qatari woman trying to nudge into traffic

This Qatari woman (she is wearing an abaya) is trying to nudge into traffic.

She must not have much luck driving because both the front end and the back end of her car were crushed in little. You can kind of see it, if you look at the trunk seam.

It's a Land Cruiser, so I must be back in Qatar!

Land Cruiser, guy in a thobe driving, ridiculous traffic...I must be back in Qatar!

Hey, is that Education City?

I took this picture as I drove by Education City on my way to the Doha, Qatar airport after staying with a friend.

The bitch is back...in Qatar.

As Elton John sang: "The Bitch is Back"...in Qatar.

I went through Qatar on my way to and from Africa. I was able to take a picture of me on my way to the airport for my flight back to the US.

Obama the Musical

I missed this when I was in Nairobi, Kenya, but I would have gone if I had known about it before I saw the ad.

This ad was in the Saturday Nation, the Saturday edition of the Daily Nation, that I picked up in Nairobi Kenya.

Hauling ass out of the Masai Mara to avoid a rain storm

We were driving out of the Masai Mara to avoid a rain storm. Was it fast? I thought it was, but then again, I was sitting in the passenger's seat in the front of the vehicle and saw every pothole and rut in the road.

Yes, that is a roll of toilet paper on the dashboard. You never know when you need to go.

The wall of a school where the Masaai are taught subjects

This a a symbolic description of the Kenyan national flag that was drawn on the wall of a school near the Masaai village. The children of the Masaai village are taught different subjects at the school. Notice the Masaai spearpoint of a Masaai spear leaning againt the wall to the lower right of the drawing.

The Maasai bring the cattle back to the village for safety in the evening

Masaai man in a cattle enclosure

The villager is standing next to a pole. The pole was stuck in the ground, groves were cut into it so that a rope could be looped around it. The rope allowed the villagers to construct a circular cattle enclosure by keeping the distance of the rope uniform as they walked around the stick.

Exterior photos of Maasai houses

Standing with a Maasai man with his spear

After showing me his home, the Masaai man had me stand in front of his home with his spear.

Sausage Tree or Kigelia africana

According to our guide, when the fruit of the sausage tree falls to the ground, it rots and ferments. Animals eat the rotting fruit. Because the rotting fruit ferments under the heat of the tropical sun, turning the sugars into alcohol, the animals get drunk off of eating the fermented fruit.

Lion with water buffalo kill

This lion was asleep with his head in a tree's branches. He was lying next to a dead water buffalo that had been killed, probably during the night. The lion is on the left and the water buffalo is on the right (You can make out a horn and a little of the water buffaloes head).

Big footed bird at the Nairobi National Museum

This bird walks across lilly pads on the water, so it needs big and wide feet to distribute its weight as it walks.

Mercury's, Stonetown, Zanzibar

Mercury's in Stonetown, Zanzibar...a good place to get a drink after you have survived the ferry ride over from Dar Es Salaam and the port entry into Zanzibar.

Slow Boat to Zanzibar

It was a mad crush to get on the boat. I paid $20 USD for a VIP ticket which didn't mean anything different that a resident ticket, except that I paid 20x as much, but you "have to" as a foreigner. As soon as the boat left port, everyone who had been sitting on benches, go up, laid down on the floor, and fell asleep on the floor for the entire ride to Zanzibar.

Roadside Edibles in Tanzania

On the way to Dar Es Salaam from Moshi by bus, we stopped at a roadside reststop/eatery. They had this item plus other foods. Can you guess what this is?

Any ideas yet, after one bite?

It's an egg wrapped in meat paste and coated in battter, then deep fried!!!

Did I eat it??? Hell, yeah, I ate the whole greasy thing!
